Bloomberg news recently reported that 2008 digital music sales broke the 1 billion track mark for the first time. The significance of the 1 billion milestone was somewhat diminished by the news that the growth of digital sales has declined again this year. As the graph indicates, after jumping by 65% in 2006, sales growth has declined in both 2007 and now 2008.
So sales of CDs are declining and now digital sales are barely growing. Perhaps the record companies should rethink their antagonistic attitude towards radio. They need radio more than ever.
